Blind Bowling Print
In what may have been a “first,” the New York Association for the Blind staged a bowling exhibition in 1915. Two three-man teams of bowlers — all of them totally blind — rolled a three-game match at the Railroad Branch YMCA in midtown Manhattan. When a bowler failed to strike, the pinboy called out the numbers of the pins left standing. Top series was 393 by Grand Longenecker. After the match, Longenecker observed that he could have done better, but had trouble adjusting to the strange alleys.
