Tax withholding at USBC Tournament Print
Written by Administrator

If you are attending the USBC Tournament please read this.

In the past Canadians just needed to complete the Internal Revenue Service 8233 form to be exempt from tax withholding at the USBC Tournament. A complete change has been forced on the USBC by the I.R.S. and will be implemented this year.

Now a bowler may participate in the tournament but a prize cheque WILL NOT be issued unless they follow the guidelines issued by the USBC and the I.R.S. In the past if you did not fill out the 8233 they would withhold the 30%. Now you will not get a cheque at all.

What does this involve? The completion of the I.R.S form W-7 with all pertinent information regarding your non-resident alien status. When mailed to Philadelphia, PA an I.R.S. Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN) will be assigned and mailed back to you. You would then use this ITIN number on the I.R.S. W-8BEN form to be sent to USBC. Tournament Headquarters. The good part about all this procedure is that you only have to do this once. The USBC will keep this form in our personal file for all future tournaments.

Captains for teams who have non-residents have been sent forms from the USBC. You can also contact the USBC Finance department's Carol Vanderveldt at (414) 423-3305 or e-mail her at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it . If you would like a bowler perspective of this process you can e-mail me.

There are 54 teams from Canada attending this year's tournament so if you are heading to the USBC Tournament, and plan on cashing, be sure to contact your captain to find out the remainder of what you need to do.

Note: Important info for Canadians bowling in US Tournaments. Thanks for sharing that with us Mike.
