Bowling was senior's passion Print

A West Side senior known to Courier readers for her expert bowling ability passed away peacefully in her sleep July 15. Alma Smith would have turned 100 a little more than two weeks later. Smith, who inspired many by her lively lifestyle, was featured in several stories about her long-time success with and love of bowling.

Her son Ken Hayden told the Courier last week that his mother enjoyed five-pin bowling four times a week at the Varsity Ridge Bowling Centre until this past April. Hayden owns the bowling centre at the corner of West 15 Avenue and Arbutus Street. "But then she suffered a stroke," said Hayden. "She was still living on her own until then, too."
