The previous high was 831.
Laughland, who is pretty casual about his accomplishments, was surprised Thursday when he heard the news.
"You're kidding," said Laughland, who lives in Windsor. "That's great.
"I didn't know that, but I'd love to be able to do it again."
His chances are good. The 867 was his 24th series of 800 or better.
Plus, Laughland is in excellent physical condition.
"I usually start my day with 300 or 400 sit-ups, unless I'm bowling that day and then I might only do 200," Laughland said. "Then in the afternoon, I usually go to the gym for a workout."
Laughland shot a low 600 series at the Old Timers, even though he never missed the pocket.
"I just couldn't get the pins to carry," he said.
But for his 867 in the Cosma Senior Classic League at Sterling Lanes in Sterling Heights, his pocket hits produced results. He started with a 300, the 58th of his career, and followed with 289 and 278.
"You get into a kind of a zone and the pins start falling for you," Laughland said. "I still get a kick out of doing it."
Note: Waydago Scotty! I'm sure there are more where that came from. Thanks Bob for pointing this out to me.
